Winter Race 3D has some new features in the options menu and are described below. The program
will acquire the capabilities of your system and set the options appropriately. Some options
are not allowed to be adjusted if your card does not support them.
Fog:
This option is for 3D hardware cards only that support fog. Direct 3D does not support
fog without 3D hardware.
The settings are:
Off
Normal - Light white fog with photographic background
Dense - Heavy blue gray fog with fogged background
Dynamic - Blue gray fog that changes density as you ski.
NOTE: If your card supports table based fog Winter Race 3D will use it and you
will have the option of combining it with a geometric background. This
feature is especially nice when using Dynamic fog since the background
image fades in and out depending on fog density. This is only effective
for cards that support table based fog. If your card only supports
vertex based fog Winter Race 3D will use it but you will not
have the option of combining it with the geometric background.
Day/Night:
This option is only adjustable for the full version. The self running demo will switch between
day and night allowing users to view this option.
NOTE: A nice feature about night racing is that it checks the fog settings and sets the distance
cue accordingly. (Distance cue allows a scene to fade to black at a specified rate.)
The following fog setting will achieve different distance cuing affects.
Off - No distance cue.
Normal - Light Distance cue.
Dense - Heavy distance cue.
Dynamic - Distance cue changes as player skis down track.
Difficulty Level:
This adjustment increases the players maximum speed.
The settings are
Normal
Advanced
Expert
Background:
This adjustment sets the background type.
The settings are
2D
Geometric
NOTE: The Geometric setting when coupled with Dynamic fog produces
a very cool effect of background fog changes. This is only
effective on cards that support table based fog and is only
allowed when a card with this capability is detected.

FOR A PEEK AT SNOWBOARD AND SNOWMOBILE RACING press escape while playing the demo,
wait 10 seconds without pressing Y/N on the retry screen and Winter Race 3D
will launch into a self running demo. This demo cycle between day and night
skiing as well as between snowboard and snowmobile racing. At any time
during the demo press escape during and either wait 10 seconds for the other
vehicle demo to launch or press Y to restart game.
Here are gameplay instructions and tips for the demo. You may select help
from the main menu for future reference. The help menu also explains the
controls for snowboard and snowmobile racing.
* You may use either a keyboard or joystick:
-- Keyboard players:
Left and Right arrows allow turning
Ctrl key allows tucking
Space bar allows you to push off with your poles when you're
skiing at low speeds
-- Joystick players:
Move joystick left and right to turn
Fire button 1 allows tucking
Fire button 2 allows you to push off with your poles when you're
skiing at low speeds
* Tucking increases speed which you must do to make the jumps and beat
the opponent skier. The trick is memorizing each jump and how much
speed is needed. If your speed is too high you'll fly into the fence,
too low and you won't clear the obstacles.
* When coming upon a jump, give your self time to get a straight approach.
* When in a tuck position your movement is restricted. Since the controls
are less sensitive this is a good way to fine tune your heading,
which is necessary for jumping.
* If you get stuck or you're having a bad run just press escape to retry
from the beginning. The escape key will also get you out of any menu.
There are a few things you should know before running the game.
* Winter Race 3D uses Direct 3D, Direct Draw, and Direct Sound.
It will use your 3D hardware as long as you have the correct
drivers supplied by your card manufacturer.
* You must have Direct X 5 installed on your machine. It is free and
you can download it from numerous places including our site.
* Direct 3D does some initialization on the data before the game starts.
On a 133 MHz Pentium it takes about 30 seconds before Direct 3D
finishes loading the data then 10 more seconds while Direct 3D initializes
the data.
* Please feel free to report any suggestions or bugs to us via our
website www.3DGameArena.com
Thanks again and have fun!!!
